It must be May
It must be May, the threshold of Spring, the portal to light and open skies. Sometime, in lucky years, we see a promise of this earlier, even as early as February, that it is on my birthday on Saint Valentine day. But this is rare and cannot be relied on. In May, the clouds dissipate, that is the dark clouds from the grey and drizzling, the skies turn blue, the birds acknowledge the rebirth. Inspiration comes back, the girls look lovelier than ever.
The light in the morning is frank and clear: the spirits of the night suddenly happy to disappear, silently. Mornings become free again for love and kisses, evenings for walks in the woods. There is more time for everything and more. There is time for wandering, looking, filling our lungs with clean and fresh air no longer polluted by the demons of winter. There is time for writing, starting something elaborate and new: for there is plenty of space in front, for long evenings, but also for inspired mornings. There is time for art, for curiosity, for discovering hidden treasures, emerging from months of darkness. There is time for exploring, new ideas, new loves.
Peak of Hope
May is the peak, not of light, but of hope. Later there is plenty of scope for things to evolve, for evil to, slowly, reappear, and be fought against. But in May there is no chance for the dark side to show much of its fangs: light triumphs, angels are never so strong and seductive. This is the right time to start something big, be ambitious in the garden, plant young trees, push back the gnomes of yesteryear. As we move on, a little blinded by the new light, as shadows recede even further, we uncover a new vigour, we almost imagine ourselves immortal.
This is the right moment to reflect, to think that there will be another winter, that without it we could not enjoy another May. The universe, the Creation, is vast, and there must be time for all seasons. Let us think what it is like on Mars, on Jupiter, on Caladan. Perhaps there will be rain on Arrakis, and celebrations of a rebirth. Perhaps this is time to start the new novel, a story of heroes, of goddesses and Time. Perhaps it is time to blow away these old dreams and let a new spirit prevail?
How to prepare
So, as of now, in the mounting darkness of the end of year, how can we prepare, ensure we will be ready to embrace the light, to seize the instant when the dawn changes colour? This is not a trivial question, for we face darkness, cold and perhaps loneliness, some of us more than others. And Peace remains elusive, a distant hope. Nonetheless we have still some power, the power of prayer, and understanding. How about this new novel then? Is it just a little mist, or something more concrete, is there a plan, a plot, characters, however sketchy? Is there a country, a city, a drama? Let’s reflect, we have time, five long months before May.
The promise of Spring
“As we embrace May, we find ourselves standing on the threshold of renewal, where clear skies beckon and love flourishes. This month is a vibrant reminder that inspiration is all around us, inviting us to embark on new projects and explore uncharted territories. Whether it’s the blossoming of nature or the rekindling of relationships, May encourages us to celebrate the beauty of beginnings. So, let’s seize this opportunity to breathe in the fresh air of possibility and allow the promise of Spring to guide us towards exciting discoveries and heartfelt connections.”
