Growth 31

Daily writing prompt
Describe a decision you made in the past that helped you learn or grow.

Growth

My dad told many times, the two truths that ultimately I adopted, after many mistakes. The first one was never to box above my weight, the second one was to always listen first before speaking. I understood those slowly, but eventually realised they were the basic foundation for real growth, and developing into a real human being.

Growth is not linear, it’s a process of trial and error, or rather trials and errors, but these two principles have led me ever since. Not engaging into a fight, real or figurative, without the right weapons, a realistic chance of winning, and always learning first, listening, before expressing a view, if at all. Growth is the result of trying, reflecting, backtracking, trying again. The results of ignoring those truths are all around us: ruined lives, wrecked enterprises, conflicts and worse. The current demise of diplomacy, at least in the West, the ludicrous lies of the media, the moronic policies can all be accounted for by the contempt those basic principles are now held by our “elites”.

Common sense

Of course for us, ordinary folks, the cost is enormous: we pay for the mistakes, we have to endure the universal cretinism that has seized the whole of mainstream media, we have very little choice in expressing our voices, since no one is listening. Yet what matters most is that we, and our children, don’t forget these principles. Our growth, their chances in life depend on it. The way forward is to focus on what is right for all of us, the honesty to recognise our mistakes, humility and also pride in our achievements. We know from history and many cultures, that those who deliberately flout common sense end up badly, as individuals, as groups, as nations.

Despite the fakes, the lies, the threats, we have to steer away from the falsehood, the easy money, the malefic behaviour of those who believe themselves above the rest of mankind.

Jesus Christ is King.

“The universal cretinism that has seized the whole of mainstream media”! I’ll gladly add an exclamation point or two to that! I also love that you say “growth is not linear.” Well put. I would add that to speak your truth is to drop a stone into the great pond of Universal Consciousness, whatever name you call this by. It doesn’t matter if we perceive that anyone is listening. The ripples will go out in circles all around us, touching those who resonate. And so we All grow.
