Volumes have been written about Honoré! It’s the name of several sovereigns of Monaco, starting with the first one, and of course the forename of several interesting people, like Honoré de Balzac, or Honoré Daumier, or Honoré d’Urfé, author of “L’Astrée“…

It was the name of a ship, of a film, about the historical warrior Honoris, who founded Massilia, today’s Marseilles.

Honoré is a male first name of Latin origin (honoratus) which means honorable, esteemed, considered. He is celebrated on May 1st.

The name comes from the North and North-East of France. It was initially worn by the bishop of Arles in the 5th century, founder of the monastery of the same name and a bishop of Amiens in the 6th century. The southern form of the name is Honorat or Honnorat in the South-East.
