Futile musings of an old ghost

Time

Time is Where our Dream Home is 2

Daily writing prompt
Write about your dream home.

Time is the great test

Time is the great test, of lasting love, of genuine happiness, of what a dream home is. Our dream home is where we live, we made it so, and time has proven it is for real. We found it by luck, we worked in and on it, we made it what we wanted. Our children were happy there, and time, again, has seen them coming back.

Life

We have travelled, we have come back, we will not leave. We love its smallness, the larger space in the garden, where things grow, where creatures hide, where birds sing. Our dream home attract life, gets softer and warmer with time, and the passing of years. We understand now, that it is part of us, of what makes us human, what protects us from evil.

Wisdom

We open the windows of our room, and realise how rich we are, how lucky we are not to be richer. Is this wisdom? Or is it simply a talent for happiness, accepting our limits, enjoying what is best in the immense Creation? Perhaps our dream home is privileged, a small space in the care of a guardian angel. Everything here, the old furniture, the books on the shelves, the pictures, is proof of our existence, of us as part of the Universe.

What makes this place special? It is what makes our lives our own, different from other lives, in a way we cherish, and wish to preserve. It is what makes working and living here a communion with what contains us, what keeps us alive. When we were away, we took small tokens from here, pieces of furniture, books, a computer, some vases: we built a smaller scale of our home in the foreign city, so as to make it less foreign, more like the real thing.

Inspiration

Here, we read, and write. Our home is the source of our inspiration: from here we travel also in our mind, sometime very far away. The nourishment of our stories is here, the origin of things. Small seeds for the garden, smaller still for our minds: dreams grow here in our dream house.
