Futile musings of an old ghost

My old school

We met in the woods, she, a diaphane apparition reflecting the sunlight, I, struggling in the mud. We spoke, she was curious, wanted to know what I was doing there, so early, what pictures I was taking, how it was that I could see her, as most humans could not. No, I did not have a special fairy detector! Then she asked about my education, where I was taught, and by who. I said my first school was the street, then my old college was old fashion, even for the time, and I still regretted not to have realised then how quickly that sort of college would disappear. Then, I said, there was the war. I saw her smiling face go dark, she looked at me, blew me a kiss and disappeared. I saw a fairy, a lady of the woods, for a brief instant.

    Fascinating, imaginative tale.
