Futile musings of an old ghost

Blessed Eternity in Magic Viktoria Park 12

Neptune and the nymph

Neptune is still there, and the nymph, and the ducks,

through the park we walked, talking about our life in the city,

what we would write, the museums we would visit,

the apartment we would find,

the concerts we would go to,

the pictures we would take.

The world was younger…

In the city of Faust, we thought

we would last forever.

Eternity of the mind

Only thoughts are eternal. It does not matter if they are recalled because of the written word, or someone’s memory, or some artefacts among all the possibilities art and technology can offer, or the fact that they just reappear in someone’s mind. If the person from whom those thoughts emanated lives in the living flame of God, then this is assured. Confidence in the spiritual life guarantees eternity.

We had to leave the city, as we knew an evil storm was brewing. But we had time to discover, to love, to write. Our thoughts are still out there, or here, in these pages, and where we walked, slept, made love and discovered new paths and new landscapes. We had the ambition, the confidence, we believed. Those dreams followed us, and when we meet our maker, we will have a smile about how naive we were, then.

But perhaps they were older, inspired by Julian’s unwritten dreams. As they left the cathedral, after a visit inside, Paul explained to Sarah how he had met Solange, in Kaliningrad. They walked around the central avenue. Paul’s account of his meeting with Solange resonated with Sarah, as she thought of her own meeting with a young Julian, in Berlin. […]
